If “free speech” is truly free, why would you ever have to apologize for what you said..??
However, if speech IS NOT free. If it is owned by someone, and they become offended, then you better say you are sorry..!!
There seems to be a rush of people demanding that “someone” apologize for “something.”
Sen. Obama is pissed off by what John Tanner said. Tanner is the head of the Justice Department’s voting rights division.
Tanner, who worked for President Clinton in the past, recently said this-
“That’s a shame, you know, creating problems for elderly persons just is not good under any circumstance,” Tanner said, according to video posted on YouTube. “Of course, that also ties into the racial aspect because our society is such that minorities don’t become elderly the way white people do. They die first.
Obama is pissed off because Tanner said “minorities die before becoming OLD..”
Obama must have been miserable during the 1970’s and 80’s when Americans could speak their minds and say what they were thinking. Hell, I can even remember a few “white people” and “black people” jokes. We all laughed at these jokes. Today, we must be careful.
Conservatives were upset and piss mad because of what San Francisco Bay area liberal Rep. Pete Stark said.
Stark said this-
“You don’t have money to fund the war or children,” Stark accused Republicans. “But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.”
OK, that was a really heartless and cruel thing to say. But I do not want someone to be FORCED into an apology. How sincere would that apology be..?? That would be like a- “Yea, I want to keep my job. I do not want death threats, so I guess I am sorry..”
What the hell good is that kind of apology..??
Even Speaker of the House- Nancy Pelosi slapped Stark’s hand and said- “bad doggy..”
Need we even get into the whole- “Rush Limbaugh should apologize..” No- “Harry Reid should apologize..” No- The New York Times and Move On should apologize..”
It is a mess..
A complete mess.
We need to ask ourselves if we do truly have free speech? Or do we have carefully chosen speech that doesn’t offend anyone?
People like “Stark- raving mad” do not bother me much. Yes, it was a stupid thing that he said, but at least I know what he is thinking.
What worries me more is what people DO NOT say. What they hold back for the sake of being “politically correct.”
A great example of the dangers of people NOT speaking what was on their mind would be Public Television in large cities.
A film about Islam that was produced by ABG Films and was originally slated to run on ‘PBS’ was NOT shown in major cities like New York, LA, Washington DC. These markets feared it might “piss off” Muslims.
The film follows moderate Muslims who have challenged the “Islamists” who espouse a more radical view of their religion. The film shows the Islamists advocating, among other things, the imposition of Sharia law on Muslims in the West, the stoning of women who commit adultery, and even violence and terrorism.
Here at The Angry Republican, one of my goals this year was to point out moderate Muslims and young members of Islam who are condemning the killing and the bombing that is being done by Radical Islam.
Many times, we ask ourselves- “Where are the moderate Muslims asking their brothers to stop the violence..??” Why must the conversation always be- “America must stop…” Shouldn’t Hamas and al Qaeda also stop..??”
So I am recommending this 90-minute film because it will show many moderate Muslims and their struggles to stop the violence caused by radicals in Islam.
You can view this film tonight on Fox News at 9 pm (Eastern Time)
Yes, there are times when the spoken word must be carefully selected. If you work for a restaurant, you probably wouldn’t want to say to the customer- “How the f**k are you today, what will you have..?”
If a wife asks- “Does this dress make me look fat..??”
What you say next, could effect the harmony of the relationship.
However, to me, free speech is all about being able to speak freely. If you say something stupid, you will have to deal with the angry people you have offended. Folks will turn the channel or vote you out of office.
What is MORE dangerous, is what people are afraid to say. When people hold back information to be politically correct. Only telling half the story because the other half might make you change your mind…
Half-truths are far more dangerous then one politician who hates the President.
Besides, “Stark raving Mad” will give us much to talk about.
How do you feel about writing in your blog..?? Speaking in public..??
Do you feel you can REALLY speak your mind?
Or are you holding back your true thoughts?
